Fall brings several annual certainties to the Lucas household:
1. BYU Football is consumed with fervor.
2. I read all of the Little House on the Prairie books. All of them. Every year.
3. Duran pulls out the Halloween stuff and hhhhhhhhas to do something with it. Preferably a haunted house. And every year there are casualties.
The second year we were married it was Addy (our three year old neighbor). She could not be made to come to our door and was convinced that a real trick-or-treater lie beneath our car.
The year we were in Payson it was our sixty-something neighbor Rosa who just about died (literally) when one of the "dummies" on the porch set off an air horn.
This year it was Stine, Allie's new neighborhood friend. I doubt her parents will let her come over next year.
And every year brings some new gadget or decoration, way beyond what most people buy. I really don't mind too much. It gives me considerable bargaining power: " I bought a new crock pot. I didn't think you'd mind. It cost less than your new fog-filled bubble machine."
Well, maybe it's not exactly like that.

I would've gotten the crock pot anyway.
Asher the Elephant. Please, no comment on who he resembles here.
